Mick Lane claimed the FTB Carp League title, despite finishing only third in the final match on an out-of-sorts Rissington venue.

Lane fished down the margin, catching small carp for 52lb 10oz.

The winner was Ivan Graham, who fished the pole with maggot and hookbait over a bed of groundbait and recorded 76.8.0.

Final placings: 1 M Lane 15pts, 2 A Benwell 16, 3 A Wiffen 19, 4 I Graham 22, 5 M Robinson 26.

Local knowledge was key as Pete Jones (Marston) won the Open match fished by 48 on the Thames on the Folly and Donnington sections.

Jones, who went for bream from a peg above the Cherwell mouth, recorded a winning weight of 52.1.0.

Tony Hobbs (Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths) was second with 39.15.0 of bream and skimmers.

Patience paid off for Geoff Waddle, whose winning fish in the Abingdon & Oxford Anglers Alliance’s fourth and final 40-hour match came just five minutes from the end.

Waddle won with a 16.8.0 common and the late arrival of 7.10.0, by which time only five anglers were still fishing. Thomas Franklin (17.12.0) was second.

Monty Finnemore, of Predator, won Tackley Sports’ Roach Cup with a catch of 2.12.0 at Northbrook on the Cherwell.
