SOUTH OF ENGLAND ROAD RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS
OXFORD City made it ten vet 60 men’s titles in a row with a dominant display at Rushmoor Arena in Aldershot.
City extended a streak that began in 2005 to take victory on Sunday by almost three minutes over the hilly two-lap 5.994km course.
Dave Parsons got City underway by clocking 24mins 22secs on the first leg, leaving them in second place.
Roy Treadwell (24.24) took over first place before Richard Grant (23.52) and anchor man Stewart Thorp (23.35) extended their lead.

Thorp clocked the third fastest individual split, with Grant fourth, Parsons sixth and Treadwell seventh.
There was a good Oxfordshire battle in the men’s vet 40 event, where Woodstock Harriers took fifth place ahead of City, who finished sixth.
Woodstock’s James Bolton (19.35) clocked the second quickest split for the age group.
Brian O’Connor (21.04), Bryan Vaughan (23.05) and Kevin Game (21.47) completed the side.
Had Vaughan raced in the vet 60 event, he would have recorded the second fastest time for his age group.
Julian Richardson (20.07) was City’s leading man and sixth quickest in the age group.
John Atyeo (21.39), Heath Bampton (21.05) and Rob Webster (23.00) made up their team.
City’s senior men could not match last year’s peformance of qualifying for the English championships.
They finished 31st when 29th place would have seen them progress to the event at Sutton Park, Birmingham on Saturday, October 4.
Darrell Bellinger (18.53) was their fastest man, while Les Newell (19.55) also broke the 20-minute barrier.
City’s B team finished 56th.
Abingdon and City both fielded teams in Saturday’s junior events.
City’s under 13 girls achieved the best finish with 14th place.
Alex Scrivener completed her 2.291km leg in 8.34 to record the 13th fastest split.
Abingdon were 55th in that event, with their under 15 and under 17 girls finishing 44th and 39th respectively.
Completing the set, Abingdon’s under 13 boys were 16th.

Girls – under 13: 55 (C Barwick 9.33, I Jones 10.44, B Darwent 9.33). Under 15: 44 (K Harris 12.51, C Ridewood 11.37, G Pennington 12.50). Under 17: 39 (L Siddle 12.37, J Wells-Gray 13.55, V Tilling 13.04).
Boys – under 13: 16 (A Pennington 11.08, A Ede 11.17, T Smallcombe 12.32, K Francis 11.29).
