IT WAS a weekend to remember for 11-year-old Dee Jarvis after he took a remarkable hat-trick against three former professional cricketers, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.
The Milton-under-Wychwood youngster was picked out of the crowd at Wormsley by former England seamer Matthew Hoggard to bowl the penultimate over in a charity game between a Brian Lara XI and Warwickshire 1994 All-Stars, which raised more than £50,000 for the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation.
Jarvis’ first victim was Keith Piper, who was stumped by ex-England wicket-keeper Paul Nixon, then Michael Bell went for lbw.
Former England international Gladstone Small was then stumped off the next ball to complete the feat.
“He was over the moon,” said Jarvis’ father Tim.
“It was fantastic how it all unfolded, to go from watching in the stands to fielding and eventually being offered the chance to bowl.
“He lives and breathes cricket, he was smiling from ear to ear.”
And fast bowler Jarvis, who represents Oxfordshire at Under 11 level as well as captaining Minster Lovell Under 11s, admitted his delight after being named man-of-the-match at a presentation by Lara.
He said: “It felt really good to have the chance to play with them and to be named man-of-the-match afterwards.
“I didn’t expect it at all, it was the best feeling in the world.”
