AN inspired performance by Shane Turner could not prevent Section 1 leaders Peachcroft Social Club losing 5-4 at home to their closest rivals Goodlake Arms B.
Turner was in sensational form with three maximums in his victory over Goodlake’s Scott Mercer-Rolls.
He enabled Peachcroft to level the match at 2-2 after the visitors had taken the lead through Mark Breakspear and Les Radford, following Nick Lowe’s first leg win.
Jason Turner put Peach-croft 3-2 ahead before Goodlake’s Tom Baughan defeated Steve Wilkes to make it 3-3. Goodlake went on to win the pairs 2-1 for a narrow win which leaves them nine points behind Peachcroft, with the leaders having played one game more.
Having completed their fixtures, Cowley Workers Club are the Section 2 champions.
In Section 3, Democrats Social Club lost their first three games of the season, but are now on an eight-match winning run.
Their 8-1 success over visiting East Oxford Conservative Club saw them hit the top spot for the first time.
Singles wins came from Dave Presley, Mark Bayliss, Dan Kirton, Suken Singh and Jamie Tricker.
East Oxford’s Ade Bowden, who had a maximum, prevented the whitewash.
Village Inn’s title hopes received a setback when they were beaten 6-3 at Black Bull, Section 5 leaders Golden Ball lost 5-4 at home to Crown House Club B, who narrowed the gap to four points with just one game remaining.
Garsington Cricket Club moved up to joint second after a 6-3 win over the visiting Nuffield Bar B, Chequers Inn B took a giant step towards the Section 6 title when they defeated second placed Gladiators Social Club 6-3 thanks to wins from Ian Gill, Steve Geddes, Harry Jenkins and Benji Cuff.
Unbeaten Littlemore Rugby Club are the Section 8 champions.
Crown Inn (Stadhampton) closed in on the Ladies Section 2 title after a stunning 8-1 win over the visiting Donnington Community Centre B and are now 15 points clear.
Second-placed Berinsfield Community Centre maintained their position with a 7-2 win at Corner House, Section 3 leaders Catherine Wheel D came from 3-0 down to beat Cricketers Arms 5-4.
