Oxford City general manager Justin Merritt admitted he was glad to get back to business as usual after a topsy-turvy week which had left his nerves frayed, writes Matthew Bruce.
City’s 2-0 win over Gainsborough Trinity followed an incredible 8-1 defeat to AFC Fylde last weekend and a 7-2 thrashing of Boston United in the week.
And after conceding ten goals in their previous two matches Merritt said it was City’s clean shee which pleased him most.
“It’s about trying to get that balance between flair to create chances and being solid,” he said.
“I’m really keen to be expansive, but we have to be set up right behind that as well.”
The win moved City up into the play-off positions, but Merritt remains keen to see further improvement from his side.
He added: “I thought there were moments in the game where we were very good and controlled it, and there were other moments where we took our foot off the gas a little bit.
“There were critical chances to kill the game off that we didn’t take.”
City are expected to make several changes for tonight’s trip to Bradford Park Avenue.
Declan Benjamin (hamstring) and Darren Pond (hip) are both doubtful after picking up knocks on Saturday, while Darren Mullings is unavailable.
