World No 1 William Fox-Pitt is poised for a major assault on this weekend’s Blenheim International title after mounting an impressive triple challenge.
All of the former Oxfordshitre rider’s CCI *** contenders are in the top eight among 79 starters following dressage.
Fernhill Pimms will head into today’s cross-country phase holding third place on a score of 35.8 penalties, just 1.8 behind leader Andrew Hoy, while Freddie Mac lies fifth and Seacookie eighth.
“I am delighted with Fernhill Pimms,” said Fox-Pitt, after setting a high standard with his other two rides on Thursday.
“He’s had quite a quiet season, but he came up with all the answers and did a super test.
“The conditions are so good here and it is a beautiful cross-country track.
“It is quite big, and you need to be awake until the end.”
Hoy posted 34.0 penalties with Cheeky Calimbo, while 18-year-old Emily King – daughter of six-time British Olympian Mary King – is second aboard Brookleigh.
