London Welsh should have no lack of motivation when they visit Bath in the Aviva Premiership today.
That is the view of assistant coach Gordon Ross, who admitted they have a point to prove after their 52-0 opening-day drubbing against Exeter.
“It was a pretty bad day at the office, but there were a lot of positives out there,” he said.
“Opportunities we created were missed, we weren’t clinical enough.
“Did the scoreline flatter them? Possibly.
“We are obviously disappointed and you can’t get away from that.
“We have now got to go down to the Rec and perform.
“If the players can’t get excited about that, then there’s something wrong.”
Despite falling away badly in the second half, Ross said the coaches were not worried about Welsh’s fitness.
“When you are on the back foot and chasing the game, it can look bad,” he explained.
Ross said the Exeter defeat had been all the more disappointing because of all Welsh’s hard work in pre-season.
He said: “We now have got to regroup and make sure we prepare the boys as well as we can for Bath.”
Former Scotland international fly half Ross came back into the team to great effect as Welsh clinched promotion in the Championship play-offs.
He is still registered as a player this season, but is not anticipating a recall any time soon.
“If needs must, then perhaps, but I am not expecting that at the moment,” he said.
