Four Oxfordshire anglers hit the jackpot on their annual trip to France.
Sean Trafford, Michael Trafford, Mick Trafford and Mick Denton, all from Kidlington, enjoyed a range of fine catches from the Val Doré area, an hour’s drive from Calais.
All four recorded at least one personal best catch, with more than 30 fish caught in total.
Michael had four good-sized fish on the bank within a few hours, one of which was a 34lb 6oz catfish Sean managed to net himself a personal best in the shape of a 40lb catfish, and Mick Denton landed a sturgeon of 43lb, another record catch.
The key to the trip appeared to be a chance find in Denton’s bag.
While sorting through his equipment before they got under way, he found an old can of ‘Stinky Stuff Spray’.
Although nobody had used it before, the group gave it a go and it certainly seemed to work.
