RADLEY athletes collected six medals when representing Great Britain at the European Veterans Championships in Izmir, Turkey.
The experienced Lyn Ahmet led the way with a brace of vet 60 ladies’ golds as temperatures soared beyond 40 degrees Celsius.
Ahmet won the triple jump in 7.26m and was part of Britain’s winning 4x400m relay team.
She also finished fifth in the long jump, eighth in the 400m and sixth in the 200m.
Janice Ellacott won silver medals in Britain’s vet 50 ladies’ 4x100m and 4x400m relay squads.
She also came fifth in the 100m and fourth in the 400m.
Paula Owen secured bronze medals in the vet 35 ladies’ 100m after clocking 13.03secs and 400m hurdles with 1min 7.15secs.
This followed up her gold and bronze from the British championships.
ABINGDON’S men finished second in the Southern Counties Veterans Track & Field League final at Ashford.
Having won the Western Division to qualify, Abingdon missed out on the title by only 22½ points to Cambridge Harriers.
Abingdon’s success was based around a very consistent team effort.
There were A-string victories for Chris Bedford in the vet 35 2,000m walk, who clocked 11mins 33.63secs.
Pete Stepney won the vet 50 triple jump in 10.22m, Ron Jones took the vet 60 shot put with 9.84m and Steve McCourt claimed the vet 35 hammer in 31.63m.
On the track, James Bolton finished second in the vet 35 1,500m (4.18.91) and 3,000m (9.09.05).
Radley, who had won the Western Division to qualify, could not field a team in the ladies’ final.
BICESTER’S David Kuester won the overall vet 70 title in the Midland (British) Masters Throwers Group Throws Fest at Moorways Stadium, Derby.
Kuester triumphed in ten of the events, setting nine personal bests in the process.
