OXFORD City put Saturday’s 8-1 drubbing behind them with a sensational display at Boston in Vanarama Conference North last night.

Justin Merritt was looking for a reaction from his side following their heavy defeat at home to AFC Fylde.

And City delivered in style against a side that could have gone top of the league, with Adi Yussuf and Kynan Isaac hitting doubles, to add to goals from Javi Rodriguez, Jose Lapoujade and Tom Winters.

Before the game, City had scored seven times in seven games, with Boston conceding just seven.

But all that changed with a clincial display in front of goal from the visitors.

Rodriguez played in Yussuf to give City the lead, only for Scott Garner to bundle home six minutes later.

Rodriguez then scored from a breakaway and, a minute before the break, Lapoujade squeezed through a crowd of players to make it 3-1.

Garner reduced the arrears a minute after half-time, but City produced a devastating second-half display and scored four more times through Yussuf, Isaac (twice) and Winters.

Oxford City: Scott, Benjamin, Stone-house, Pond, Lapoujade, Green, Hoban (Barcelos 65), Mullings, Yussuf (Wilson 65), Rodriguez, Isaac (Winters 65). Subs not used: Brown, Del Alamo.

Attendance: 1,069.

  • JOHN Mills scored his third hat-trick of season as Didcot Town hit back from 1-0 down to win 3-1 at Evesham in Division 1 South & West of the Southern League last night.

Sean Wood opened the scoring for the hosts, but Mills equalised for the visitors just before half-time.

The striker scored his second just after the restart, before Didcot keeper James Foster saved a penalty.

Mills then scored his 13th goal in eight matches this season to earn the Railwaymen the win.

Wantage Town went down to a 4-1 defeat at Stratford Town.

Danny Lachacz levelled for Wantage early on, but goals from Joe Halsall (2), Chris Sterling and Tyrone Fagan won it for Stratford.

In the Premier Division, Banbury United were unable to build on their first win of the season after going down 4-0 at Hungerford Town.

Mark Draycott (2), Matt Day and Charlie Mpi were on target for the hosts, who led 3-0 at half-time.

  • JACK Harding saved the tenth spot-kick as Ardley United won 5-4 on penalties after their FA Cup preliminary round replay at Hartley Wintney finished 0-0 after normal and extra time.
