SAXTON Rovers’ poor start to their North Berks League Division 1 campaign continued as they were thrashed 6-1 at Wallingford Town, writes Phil Annets.
Ashley Searle and Connor Mattimore grabbed two goals each, alongside strikes from Andy Allum and Tom Baptie, while Sean Smith hit Saxton’s consolation.
Watlington Town were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Drayton, despite taking a two-goal lead into the break courtesy of Luke Yeulet, whose first goal after just 11 seconds was a fabulous 50-yard lob.
But the visitors hit back via Richard Chilvers and Iain Oram.
Long Wittenham Athletic were beaten 3-0 as champions Kintbury Rangers rose again to the top thanks to a Tom Mahoney brace and a goal from Charlie Allsop.
Abingdon Town drew 2-2 at Ardington & Lockinge, Dan Cox and Rob Lightfoot efforts cancelling out goals from Jonny Eudell and Adam Hogan for the home side.
It was the same scoreline between Faringdon Town and Dorchester.
Jamie Hopgood and Mike van der Mortel scored for Faringdon, with Marlon Jones and Josh Nicholls replying.
Newly-promoted Stanford in the Vale are Division 2’s early leaders, following a 3-1 win at Burghclere.
Kye Franklin netted for the home side, but a Brad Gill double and a James Munday strike made it two wins out of two for the visitors.
Dan Oyston hit a hat-trick, Fraser Bruce bagged two and Jack Deaman also scored as Faringdon Town Res opened their campaign with an emphatic 6-1 win at Saxton Rovers Res.
Mike Smith netted a consolation for the home side, but it was not enough to prevent Saxton dropping to the bottom of the table.
Mike Farrelly, Riccardo Riccio and Ben Sutton scored as East Hendred beat Kintbury Rangers Res 3-1. Luke Grant netted for the hosts.
Sutton Courtenay picked up their first pointswith a 2-1 home win over Marcham.
Nino Merola and Richard Hathaway netted for the home side and Jonny Lloyd replying.
Coleshill United and Steventon shared a six-goal thriller.
Two goals from Adam Sly and a Dale Head effort for the home side were matched by a three-timer by Adam Oram for Steventon.
Benson Lions went top of Division 3, beating Blewbury 3-1 thanks to goals from Robert Gray, Luke Vincent and Kyle Hares. Connor Sugden replied for Blewbury.
Uffington United started life in Division 4 with a comprehensive 7-0 home win over Steventon Res courtesy of a Louis Butler brace and goals from Jamie Glock, Mark Jones, Jamie Ringham, Pete Fletcher and an own goal.
