DAN Fox was left frustrated as England’s men’s hockey team lost 2-1 to New Zealand.
The Oxford University graduate ended the match as a ‘kicking back’ after England sacrificed their goalkeeper to push for a late equaliser.
But Fox’s side have the consolation that victory over Canada tomorrow will put them in the semi-finals.
“I am disappointed in the result,” he said. “We played some good hockey, but were a bit below par.
“Their goalkeeper made a couple of brilliant corner saves, but we did not put away some pretty good chances.”
England’s Alice Barnes, who was born in Oxford, finished fifth in the women’s mountain bike event at Cathkin Braes.
Oxford University graduate James Jurkiewicz was part of the Guernsey men’s swimming team who finished fifth in their 4x100m medley relay heat.
