Joe Barrett hit a sparkling century to set Shipton-under-Wychwood on the way to a stunning six-wicket home win over Serious Cricket Home Counties League Division 2 leaders Reading on Saturday.
Chasing Reading’s formidable 265-6 after the visitors had been put in to bat, opener Barrett set about the task with some terrific strokeplay.
He made 103 off 117 balls, hitting ten fours and four sixes.
And when he was Shipton’s third man out with the score on 180, the hosts were firmly on course for victory.
He shared in a third-wicket stand of 131 with Simon Hole, who made a fluent 65 from 85 delivieres, hitting three fours and four maximums.
Anupam Sanklecha then accelerated the run chase with a whirlwind knock.
The Indian all-rounder blasted three boundaries and six sixes in his unbeaten 57 off just 25 balls as Shipton raced home in style.
Sanklecha’s lively pace had earlier reduced Reading to 24-2.
Amardeep Dosanjh turned the innings round with 63 off 66 balls with nine fours and a maximum, before he was caught and bowled by Sanklecha.
Curran Gaur, a fourth victim for Sanklecha, who finished with 4-62, and Sukh-meet King made useful contributions in the middle order.
And then Andrew Rishton, who hit ten fours in an unbeaten 75 off 63 balls, and Jack Beaven (29no) put on an unbroken stand of 71 for the seventh vicket.
But it wasn’t enough.
