Premier Section side Kidlington Green Social Club B fought off a determined display from Section 2 leaders Cowley Workers to reach the second round of the men’s Seven-a-side Cup.
The visiting Kidlington outfit took the lead when Joe Palmer defeated Ian Moss 2-1, but Workers levelled thanks to Jon Jukes’s 2-0 win over Lee Russell.
Green Club regained the lead when Sean Holley, who recorded a 180, defeated Pete Hall 2-0, but Aaran Stevens took advantage of Neil Russell’s missed doubles to make it 2-2.
The home side’s resistance was finally broken by wins from John Russell and Stuart Wright as Kidlington triumphed 4-2.
The all-Section 2 clash saw visiting Corner House B defeat George Bar C 4-1.
Mick Kennett, Mick O’Leary, Trevor Ballard and Richard Reveley were the Corner House winners.
Section 1 leaders Peachcroft Social Club proved too strong for Section 3 hosts East Oxford Conservative Club as they cruised to a 6-1 success.
Chequers Inn, from Section 6, triumphed 5-2 away to Section 4 side Cricketers Arms B, thanks to wins from Ben Green, Ian Gill, Steve Geddes , Gavin Jewell and Benji Cuff.
In the preliminary round of the Ladies’ Seven-a-side Cup, Donnington Community Centre A, from Section 1, squeezed past Section 7 side hosts George Bar C 4-3.
The home side took the lead when Amelia Martin beat Julie Baldwin, but the visitors hit back to go 2-1 up with wins from Eileen White and Ann Marks.
The George levelled with a victory for Carla Smith over Emma Elliott, before Donnington restored their lead 3-2 as Ann Clark defeated Julie Maloney.
But the Section 7 side would not give in and Caroline Champion beat Anne Ranger to make it 3-3.
In a tense decider, Emily Baldwin just got the better of Tracy Hutt to put Donnington through to the next round, where they will be joined by Black Horse and Corner House.
