AN inexperienced Oxford United Development side went down 4-0 at Colchester United yesterday afternoon The U’s looked at six trialists in their line-up, with Matt Bevans the only player included to have played for the first team this season.
However, one positive was the appearance of Jon Meades, who continued his comeback from injury by getting another 90 minutes under his belt.
Assistant manager Mickey Lewis felt Colchester were flattered by the scoreline, but insisted the priority was looking at the players in a match situation.
“It was a chance to look at one or two players again after they played last week and there were some new faces as well,” Lewis told United’s official website.
“You can see a lot in training, but it is always good to see them in a competitive game as well. “The scoreline was a little bit harsh, but the result wasn’t that important in a game like this.”
