Peter Franklin marked his first season in the sport by winning the Gentworks Oxford & District League’s Arthur Cook Cup.
Franklin (+70) eased past holder Alan Mander (+40) 200-124 in the final, compiling a 28-break to his opponent’s 22.
Mander had edged into the final with a 200-199 victory over Bob Hayward (+90), who missed an easy red into the centre pocket for match.
Requiring 19, Mander made a 15 break and left the balls in baulk.
Hayward hit the white, but failed to score, leaving Mander to bag the four required.
Franklin beat John Williams (+50) 200-128 in his semi-final.
Mander, however, was part of the New Club side that defeated Riley A 2-1 in the Hashman Shield final.
Although Mander (scratch) lost again to Franklin (+40), this time 150-142, New Club prevailed.
Nigel Bossom (scratch) was in unstoppable form, compiling a 35-break in his 150-32 hammering of Riley’s Lewis Moss (scratch).
Justin Shepherd (scratch) saw off Malcolm Bough (scratch) 150-123 to seal New Club’s victory.
