STEWART Thorp sec-ured a team gold medal for Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the World Masters Championships in Budapest.
The 62-year-old Oxford City athlete was part of his country’s victorious vet 60 team in the 8km cross country event at Budapest City Park, clocking 31mins 31secs.
Britain’s John Shapland (Bideford) won individual gold in 29.23. Notts’ David Oxland (30.21), in fourth, and eighth-placed Thorp completed the side.
The championships conclude on Sunday.
CHRIS Dettmar underlined his status as one of the region’s leading veteran runners with a third-place finish in the Hillingdon Half Marathon.
The 44-year-old Headington Road Runner was the first vet 40 man home in 1hr 12mins 40secs.
BRIAIN O’Dowd came fourth in the Water of Life Half Marathon.
O’Dowd (Oxford City) recorded 1hr 25mins 8secs for the route between Marlow and Henley.
Eynsham Road Runners’ Ben Pollard was sixth and the first vet 40 man home in 1.27.03.
