Striker Steve Basham is hoping lightning strikes twice when Oxford City travel to Dover Athletic in today’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
Basham, 35, was part of the Oxford United team that won 1-0 at the Crabble Stadium in November 2002 in the first round and now he hopes to help Mike Ford’s Skrill North City side to triumph at the Skrill South high-fliers.
“I don’t recall too much about the game, other than it was a long journey,” said Basham.
“But I do remember David Oldfield receiving the ball with his back to goal before turning and lobbing the goalkeeper.
“It was a tough place to go then and I’m sure it will be just as difficult this time.”
Basham feels that City are capable of winning in Kent. He added: “They are going well in their league and we’ve got to expect the toughest game we can possibly get.
“But we have picked up in recent weeks and have got every chance.”
He added: “I’ve scored a few goals in the FA Cup and there is always something special about doing that in the world’s most famous competition. “The carrot at Dover is to get in that first round.”
