England and Oxfordshire ace Miles Hammond, 17, was honoured with the Phil Garner Excellence Award at the OCB’s annual presentation evening at Hawkwell House Hotel.

The youngster, who came through the youth ranks with Oxfordshire, made his first class debut for Gloucestershire this season and has been selected for England Under 19’s upcoming tour of the United Arab Emirates as they prepare for next year’s World Cup.

The award, which is not presented annually, was given to Hammond , who also made his England Under 19 Test debut in South Africa.

Around 350 people attended the three presentation nights, and Oxfordshire had some notable achievements to celebrate.

Pick of the bunch was their under 16 boys, who won the prestigious Jersey Festival for the first time, while the under 17s reached the ECB national semi-finals.

Leg-spinning all-rounder Saim Hussain was the under 17 boys’ player of the season award after he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the country at his age group.

Retiring under 16 coach Phil Slatter was also honoured as the team presented him with a winners’ medal from the Jersey Festival.

It was a good evening for the Price from Abingdon, as Tom won the under 13 award and younger brother Ollie the under 12 accolade.

James Coles, who scored a maiden county century at the young age of eight, won the under 10 prize.

The girls’ presentation evening honoured Carla Wood as under 17 player of the year, while Charlotte Leach won the under 15 prize.
