Didcot Town’s interim boss Gary Elkins says he is no longer interested in becoming the Calor League Division 1 South & West club’s permanent manager.

Earlier in the week, Elkins, who stepped down as boss last season, indicated he was keen for a second spell after Andy Wallbridge resigned.

However, he admitted that he let his heart rule his head.

“Once I had got my sensible head on in the cold light of day, I realised that my personal circumstances mean I can’t do it,” said Elkins.

“But I’m still willing to help the club in any way I can.”

The Railwaymen will now advertise the job and applicants have until Tuesday to apply.

Elkins and Wallbridge’s assistant Paul Davis, who is interested in taking the job, will run the team until a successor is found.

Didcot entertain Poole Town tomorrow and hope to have Joel Meade available.

Defender Sam Elkins, who took over in goal when keeper Keiron Beesley suffered an Achilles injury in Tuesday’s 3-2 home loss to Evesham, is expected to be fit despite playing with a broken bone in his hand.

Alex Williams wil play should Beesley be ruled out.

Pablo Haysham (hamstring) and Taylor Janes (groin) face late tests.

Interim manager Elkins added: “Poole are down with us, so it would be good to get a win to get off the bottom.”
