CHINNOR were unable to recover from a poor opening half-hour as they lost 21-11 in National 2 South at Ampthill.

The visitors trailed 13-0 after 32 minutes, and although they ‘won’ the rest of the game, the damage had been done.

A try from Joe Tarrant, plus Elliot Clements-Hill’s conversion and two penalties gave the Bedfordshire side a flying start and Chinnor’s cause was not helped when Macsen Williams was yellow-carded.

Winger Tristan Corpe went over to put Chinnor on the scoreboard on 34 minutes.

After the interval, Will Millett’s penalty further reduced the arrears to 13-8 before Clements-Hill replied in kind for the home side.

Chinnor were still in contention when Millett slotted another three points to cut the deficit to five points and Ampthill prop Sam Walsh was sin-binned. However, the killer score came in the 71st minute when replacement Gavin Williams went over to stretch the lead to 21-11 and they held on for victory.
