FA CARLSBERG VASE

Richie Claydon scored a hat-trick as Wantage Town started their road to Wembley adventure with a resounding 7-0 first-round victory at home to fellow Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Abingdon Town on Saturday.

Claydon beat the offside trap to open the scoring after 12 minutes.

Drew Fowler went close for Abingdon, who are struggling near the bottom of the table, before further goals from Matt Pedder – a superb volley – and Claydon made it 3-0 at half-time.

Abingdon keeper Gareth Walker also saved well from Pedder, who along with teammate Tom Malton, missed the second half through injury.

Substitute Sean Webb made it 4-0 just after the break.

Abingdon had a chance to get a foothold in the game when awarded a penalty for handball, but keeper Steve Howe saved well from Fowler’s spot-kick.

Richie Guy made it a nap hand for the hosts, Tom Melledew added a sixth and Claydon grabbed his hat-trick with three minutes left.

Tommy Castle was the hat-trick hero as Kidlington maintained their excellent form to trounce Lymington Town 5-1 at Yarnton Lane.

The Sydenhams League visitors had no answer to rampant Kidlington who were recording their 11th win in the last 13 competitive fixtures.

The hosts actually went behind in the ninth minute to a goal fromShane Simms.

Kidlington boss Martin Wilkinson changed formation and his side dominated from then on, equalising before half-time when Christien Turner’s shot was nicked home by Mike Duerden.

Winger Castle scored twice in two minutes after the break as Kidlington took charge.

And Lymington’s hopes were further dashed when Ben Rizzo was sent off for head-butting Lewis Coyle.

Winger Castle completed his second-half hat-trick when netting a penalty after he himself had been fouled in the area.

Duerden completed the rout by tapping home his second from close range in injury time.

Oxford City Nomads won 2-1 away to Dorset Premier League side Hamworthy United.

A goal in each half from Adam Lovegrove and substitute Liam Marshall put Nomads 2-0 ahead before the hosts replied late on through Sam Pekun.

Abingdon United, bottom of the Hellenic Premier, put up a brave performance at home to Fareham Town, taking the game to extra time after a goalless 90 minutes.

But the Wessex League side proved too strong, winning 3-0 with goals from Graham Lindsey (2) and Pete Murphy.

Milton United lost 2-0 away to Reading Town, both of whose goals came from Ross Herridge inside a minute at the end of the first half.
