DANNY Rose was left frustrated by a rare off-day in front of goal for Oxford United as they drew a blank at Accrington Stanley.

Sky Bet League Two’s top scorers had netted almost three goals per game on their travels this season before the trip north.

But against an Accrington side propping up the table they were unable to find one breakthrough, despite carving out half-a-dozen decent openings.

Rose, who curled a free-kick just over in the first half, was irritated by the goalless draw.

He said: “We’re the top scorers in the league and there have only been a couple of games where we haven’t scored.

“Our conversion rate has been very good.

“This was a very similar game to the one we had away at Torquay. We had four or five half chances in that game and we took them to win 3-1.

“We have to make the most of those opportunities when we do get them.”

Although United had an excellent spell during the second half when they pinned Accrington back, the hosts were well in the game.

Rose said: “It’s one of those games where it could easily have gone either way and we could have lost.

“The gaffer spoke how last season that may have happened.

“It’s another clean sheet and we’ll definitely try and take as many positives as we can, but there are certainly things to work on and improve.”

Rose hailed Ryan Williams for his performance after coming on for the injured Johnny Mullins.

The winger, on loan from Fulham, played his part in a much-improved second half display.

Rose said: “Ryan’s a very direct player when he gets on the ball. He likes to run at defenders and makes things happen.

“The balance of the game from our perspective changed and you could say it gave us more of an outlet.”
