Oxford City have a great opportunity of reaching the FA Cup first round after being drawn away to Skrill South side Dover Athletic in the fourth qualifying round.

They avoided the big guns in the Skrill Premier and after winning 3-2 at Skrill South leaders Eastleigh on Saturday, manager Mike Ford believes his side have every chance of reaching round one for the third time since he took over as boss in 2009.

City could also double the prize money they have won from the competition so far, with a chance of taking the pot to an impressive £24,500.

“It’s amazing what a couple of wins can do for your confidence,” said Ford.

“We were a bit worried when we were drawn against Eastleigh, but now we’ve won three games on the bounce and we’re looking strong.

“It’s an away tie, which isn’t ideal, but of course it’s winnable. I think we would have fancied ourselves to beat anyone at home, but we’ve been given an away tie and we’ll just get on with it.

“They hold no fears for us, but we go there with great respect for them.

“They’ve got an experienced manager in Chris Kinnear and they have vociferous home support, but as a player I used to love that kind of match where you were outnumbered.”

City, second from bottom in Skrill North, struggled earlier this season, but the FA Cup has provided a welcome distraction, and Ford is keen for that to continue.

“Saturday’s game against Worcester is our main priority right now because they’re down there and scrapping just like we are and we know we could be out of the bottom three if we win,” he added.

“Do that and we can go into the Dover game with no nagging concerns about our league position.

“We’re just one game away now from the first round proper, we’ve made a bit of cash for the club, given the fans a day out and we don’t want it to end.”

City have swelled the club’s coffers to the tune of £12,000 from their run so far this season and stand to add another £12,500 if they can get past Dover.
