Oxford's Jason Plato is one of five drivers in contention to win the MSA British Touring Car Championship Motor in this weekend’s eagerly-anticipated final three rounds at Brands Hatch.

But things must go spectacularly right for MG driver Plato – the outsider of the quintet – if he is to secure the championship for a third time.

Rising star Andrew Jordan (Pirtek Racing) leads four former champions. The triple BTCC champion Matt Neal is second, just a single point ahead of Honda Yuasa Racing teammate and reigning champion Gordon Shedden, The BMW of Colin Turkington is fourth just ahead of Plato, who has ta 49-point deficit to make up.

Plato will point to some off days that have seen him slip behind his rivals as the MG KX Momentum Racing squad failed to capitalise on its superior pace. Plato bounced back in style at Silverstone earlier this month by claiming pole position and two race victories to keep his fading title hopes alive. His duel with Jordan in his second win at the Northamptonshire track was one of the highlights of the championship.

Latest standings 1 A Jordan 378pts, 2 M Neal 344, 3 G Shedden 343, 4 C Turkington 330, 5 J Plato 329.
