Banbury Borough’s AJ Docherty and Calvin Carpenter reached the last 16 of the National Pairs Championship at Worthing before bowing out 26-19 to Chris Daniels and Michael Hutley (Boscombe Cliff, Hampshire).
They had beaten David Lockhart and Anthony Horobin (Heaton Hall, Lancashire) 21-11 in the second round after thrashing John Thurston and Tony Belson (Yaxley, Huntingdonshire) 27-6 in round one.
Docherty and Carpenter opened up with a nail-biting 22-21 victory over Andrew Owens and Stephen Davies (St Andrews, Somerset) in the preliminary round.
Headington’s Shaun Claridge and Mark Charlett went out 15-14 to Ledbury’s Mike Holmes and Luke Harwood in the first round.
Claridge also suffered an agonising one-shot defeat in the Triples Championship first round with Jon Philpott and Ian Snowdon.
They went down 22-21 to Richard White, Ian Clarke and Gary Morris (Burton House, Lincolnshire).
Headington’s John Nicholls, Jason King and Mark Charlett also fell at the first hurdle, 16-12 to Harry Hovenden, Doug Rumble and Martin Puckett (Greenhill, Dorset).
Carterton’s Alan Prew bowed out 21-17 to Essex County’s Ed Morris in the National Champion Of Champions Singles first round.
Headington’s Gary May came through the Two Wood Singles Championship preliminary round with a 14-11 win over Nigel Roberts (Wenhaston, Suffolk).
An Oxfordshire side reached the last eight of the Mixed Fours with a 18-17 win over Surrey.
The team of Katherine Hawes, Jackie Harrington, Nathan Lewis and Howard Watts squeezed past Jenny Hayson, Marjorie Cole, Josh Grant and John Wilson in their last-16 clash.
