A proposed move to take Kimi Raikkonen from the Enstone-based Lotus Formula 1 team to Red Bull for next season has broken down, according to the Finn’s manager, Steve Robertson.
Speculation was rife that Raikkonen would leave Lotus at the end of his deal this year to fill the spot which will be vacated by Mark Webber, who announced he was quitting Red Bull to join Porsche’s sportscar programme.
However, Robertson confirmed that is now not a viable option.
“Talks broke down,” he said. “We haven’t spoken for a little while and it’s clear Kimi won’t be driving for Red Bull in 2014.”
Daniel Ricciardo is now thought to be the frontrunner to move to Red Bull next year.
