OXFORD City manager Mike Ford has urged his players to learn from their mistakes after their 2-1 defeat to Harrogate Town, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

City were beaten just once during their pre-season campaign but were punished by their clinical opponents in their opening match of the season.

“That’s the harsh realities of proper league football,” said Ford.

“You make a mistake, the other team scores and you’re a goal down.

“They took their goals very well, we missed a couple of chances and that is the fine dividing line in football.

“It’s not nice to lose the first one, but we’ve not got a great record on the opening day and we’ve always had decent seasons.”

And Ford is keen that his side, who are away to Solihull Moors tomorrow night, correct matters as soon as possible.

He added: “We had a number of these games last season where it was very tight and we didn’t get the result.

“We’ve got to make sure that this season we get the right result.

“It’s nice to have a game away to Solihull on Tuesday night to bounce back from this and it just gives us a chance to get three points on the board.”
