Thame's Karla Boddy sprinted to victory in the Cheshire Classic Road Race, just weeks after signing for her first professional team.

The 27-year-old got up by inches to land the prestigious event, joining an impressive list of former winners which includes Lizzie Armitstead, Nicole Cooke and Sarah Storey.

Boddy, who has recently joined MG Maxifuel Pro Cycling, commented: “It is safe to say winning the Cheshire Classic is now the highlight of my cycling career.

“And to think two years ago, I had not even done a road race.

“In my opinion, this is the biggest one-day women’s race in the country after the British National Women’s Road Race.

Boddy, who also picked up the Delamere Dairy Intermediate Sprint earlier in the race, added: “I might not have been the strongest person in the race, but I was the strongest in the last 250 metres.

“It’s about timing, creating your own luck and riding your own race.”

Oxford's City’s Mark Jones won the Burford ten-mile time trial.

His time of 21mins 34secs was nine seconds clear of Eamonn Deeley.

Malcolm Rose was third in 21.44, knocking a huge 42 seconds off his previous best time.

The fastest lady was Claire Vallance in 26.09, who beat Jim Line (27.33).

In only her second time trial, 14-year-old Tasha Reddy was the third lady home.
