OXFORD United have chosen to release 12 first-team players following face-to-face discussions this morning.

All were out of contract this summer and have been told they will not be offered new terms.

Peter Leven, Michael Duberry and Tom Craddock were among the experienced players who are now free agents.

Damian Batt, who made 177 appearances for United, is another now looking for a new club.

He tweeted: "I would like to thank the fans for giving me an amazing four and a half years at a fantastic club.

"It has been the best time of my career which you guys have played a part in and I will miss it, but life is about new challenges and that is what I need."

Duberry also took to Twitter: "Well it's disappointing to be released from #oufc but that's football & the decision of the club. I have had a great 2yrs!! #yellowarmy."

There was better news for Andy Whing and Alfie Potter, who will be staying after the U’s took up the option in their contracts.

Deane Smalley and Scott Davies have been offered new contracts, while Luke O’Brien remains an option and the club intend to keep in contact with the left back.
