WALLINGFORD Under 14s won the Oxfordshire Cup for a sixth successive year after beating Banbury 17-0 on home soil in the final.

The have lifted the county cup at every age group since 2008 and are now Wallingford’s most successful junior side.

Wing Ben McCrindle, replacement prop Tom Guthrie and No 8 Tom Haynes scored Wallingfrod’s tries, with Callum Pearse converting one.

Head coach Richard Pearse said: “I am immensely proud of the effort the lads put in.

“Their season has been beset by injuries and it has been the most difficult we have had.

“But it has taught the boys the importance of teamwork and that no one is bigger than the game.”

  • OXFORD Harlequins and Henley were crowned under 7 and 8 champions in the Oxfordshire county tag festival at Witney RFC.

More than 2,000 players from 15 clubs took part in the event at Witney’s Hailey Road ground, where Wasps and England wing Tom Varndell helped present the prizes.
