Tyrone Marsh and Max Crocombe have agreed new contracts which will keep the teenagers at Oxford United next season.

Both 19-year-olds made their first team debuts this season and impressed sufficiently for the U’s to activate a clause in their contracts to keep them at the club for another 12 months.

United boss Chris Wilder, who intends to discuss longer term deals with the pair this summer, has been delighted with their progress.

He said: “Max and Tyrone have both done well this season and deserve their chance.

“They have worked at their game, listened to the right people and shown a lot of maturity.

“We are pleased that they will be part of the first team squad next season.”

It means United's first-team squad for the new campaign will include five players who have come through their youth system after Sam Long, Callum O'Dowda and Dave Lynn signed professional contracts last month.

Crocombe made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Burton Albion in January.

The goalkeeper, who looks set to feature at the Under 20 World Cup with New Zealand this summer, also started the final three games of the season without conceding a goal.

He said: “It has been a fantastic year, both Ty and I have learnt so much and want to keep pushing on and improving as players.

“With Callum O’Dowda, Sam Long and David Lynn also being offered professional contracts the club is putting a lot of faith in developing young players and we want to reward the confidence they are showing us by helping the team push for promotion next season.”

Marsh scored his first goal for United against Southend United in January, before going on to have a successful spell on loan at Staines Town.

The striker scored nine times in 16 games before returning last week and came off the bench to set up Sean Rigg's goal in the 3-0 win at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Both are expected to start for the U's in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final against Oxford City tonight.
