OXFORD United will trust youth tonight, with at least five home-grown teenagers starting the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final.

Goalkeeper Max Crocombe and striker Tyrone Marsh will be joined in the XI taking on Oxford City by Sam Long, Callum O’Dowda and Dave Lynn, who have all agreed professional contracts.

Others, such as youth team top-scorer James Roberts, could also be involved, while the rest of the squad will be made up of senior players.

U’s assistant manager Mickey Lewis is looking forward to seeing how the youngsters deal with City.

He said: “We will put a decent team out and we want to see how our young boys play against what is a good team. It’s a good test.”

The seniors in the squad will include several out of contract this summer.

Individual meetings will be held tomorrow when the players will find out their futures with the U’s, but Lewis does not believe it will be a distraction.

He said: “There will definitely be one or two of those playing.

“There might have been a couple who were thinking their season was over, but if you’re playing in the final your personal pride will make you want to produce a good performance.”
