CHINNOR sealed sixth place in the table with a match to spare after a 27-13 home victory over Launceston.

This is the highest finish in Chinnor’s 50-year history and victory at Shelford in their final match would take them to at least 80 points.

It was also a fitting farewell for Jason Bowers in his last home game as head coach before he steps down due to work commitments.

Chinnor took the lead on eight minutes, when prop Joe Winpenny was driven over for the first of a try double.

Ten minutes later, scrum half Frank Jones and fly half Will Millett combined to set up wing Pip Seymour for try No 2.

Chinnor prop Tom Whelan was yellow-carded for persistent team offences just two minutes after coming on as a replacement, but Millett’s penalty made it 13-0.

Kieron Lewitt replied in kind before visiting No 8 Josh Lord was sin-binned.

Lewis Paterson’s try, converted by Lewitt, reduced the arrears to 13-10 on 55 minutes.

But Millett’s magic sidestep gave centre Leo Fielding an easy run-in for a try, which the former converted.

Chinnor’s Ricky Hopwood was yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle just two minutes after coming on and Jake Murphy slotted a penalty for Launceston.

A well-organised Chinnor rolling maul enabled Winpenny to touch down his second try, Millett converting.
