A depleted Banbury United side lost 2-0 at Bashley in their last Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division game of the season.

Without a host of first-team regulars due to injury and suspension, the Puritans handed debuts to reserve team regulars Leam Howards and Conor Collins.

They managed to raise 11 players, but could not name any subs. And the new-look visitors had the better of the first half, but without either side creating clear chances.

Three minutes after the break, however, Bashley took the lead when substitute Rob Gradwell fed Mark Gamble, who rounded Banbury goalkeeper Warren Carter to score.

In the 60th minute, Bashley were reduced to ten men when Matt Finlay was sent off for a second yellow card after jumping into a tackle with Connor Collins.

Despite a man advantage, Banbury did not look likely to equalise, Ben Polk’s shot wide from distance in the 78th minute the closest they came.

Banbury’s fate was sealed in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Harold Agyeman-Prempeh brought down Rob Gradwell in the area with Gamble converting the spot-kick.

Banbury Utd: Carter, Shariff, Martin, Ashton, Sc Bridges, Agyeman-Prempeh, Polk, Dumbleton, Skendi, Howards, Collins.
