RADLEY made a superb start to life in Southern Athletics League Division 1 with victory in their opening match at Lee Valley.

Having been promoted from Division 2 last season, Radley shone with 200 points - 13 ahead of second-placed Basingstoke.

This places them third in the league table.

Ossy Muskwe starred with a club and Division 1 record throw of 45.79m to win the discus, while he also won the shot put with 14.12.

There was a middle distance double for Stuart Ferguson in the 800m and 1,500m, clocking 1min 55.8secs and 4.28.0 respectively.

David Gain, who has joined from Oxford City, took the 200m in 21.7 and recorded 10.9 for second in the 100m.

Gain, Jordan Dorrian, Ashley Johnson and Ben Owen smashed the Division 1 4x100m relay record to win in 42.5.

Among the ladies, there were victories for Lois Waknell (13.1) in the 100m, Hayley Perrin (1.50) in the high jump and Emma O’Hara (51.23) in the hammer.

Radley also won the 4x100m relay in 50.7.

  • OXFORD City finished third in their opening Division 3 North meeting at Colchester.

City, who were relegated last season, scored 195 points and collected six A string victories.

Tony Palman-Brown took the men’s pole vault in 2.40m, while Mark Warland won the long jump in 6.10.

Gwyneth Hueter collected maximum points in the ladies’ 1,500m steeplechase, recording 7mins 4.2secs.

Aliysa Codrington took the shot putt in 7.66m, Jacqui Cherry the discuss in 29.81 and Danielle Anderson the javelin in 36.20.
