WITNEY’S survival in South West 1 East looks to have been by an even narrower margin than first thought.
Jez Hicks’s side collected a solitary losing bonus point in Saturday’s 30-25 defeat at Cheltenham, but saw their league tally rise from 46 to 48 on www.rfu.com.
A check through Witney’s results this season shows they have in fact earned a 47 points.
However, that total would still have been enough to keep them up by virtue of games won and points difference.
“We’re really pleased we stayed up, but it was by the skin of our teeth,” said captain Hicks.
“Cheltenham were fighting for their lives and we knew we wanted a win, so the result was perfect for both sides.
“We have been pretty disappointed with this season. We have been so inconsistent.
“So we have a lot to improve on because we won’t survive if we play like we did next season.”
