CHINNOR, Witney and Banbury all suffered heartbreak in their national junior competitions.

While their seniors were winning a fourth successive Oxfordshire Cup title, Chinnor were pipped 34-28 by Colchester in the LV National Colsts Plate final at Hitchin.

Chinnor had led 23-19 at one point, but couldn’t hold on for victory.

Witney fell to a 31-20 defeat against Thanet in the National Under 17 Plate semi-final at Henley.

Their points came via tries from Ben Fisk, Tom Dee and James Merriman, with Will Spencer kicking a conversion and a penalty.

Banbury were pipped 21-19 by Old Elthamians National Under 17 Bowl semi-final, also at Henley.
