BLUE Boar, the part-time pub side from Longworth, won the Oxfordshire Shield for the second time with a 20-13 win over Chipping Norton in the final at Iffley Road on Sunday.
Chipping Norton, who play in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division, took the lead with an early penalty from Darren de Bruin.
But Blue Boar hit back to score first-half tries from scrum half Angus Phillip and hooker James Orpwood. The latter, from a pushover, was converted by centre Oscar Matthews.
Chippy brought the score back to 12-8 at half-time with a try from Richard Flather.
Matthews extended Blue Boar’s lead with a try midway through the second half, before Chippy full back Barry Nutt replied in kind.
Blue Boar sealed victory with a late penalty from Matthews, but not before their 53-year-old prop Martin Hobley had been sin-binned just three minutes after coming on as a replacement.
