Grove clinched their place in the play-offs with a handsome 50-24 victory over Milton Keynes in front of a big home crowd.

The win secured second place in the Southern Counties North table and they now face Trowbridge from Southern Counties South in a play-off for promotion to South West 1 East at Cane Lane next Saturday.

Grove led 19-10 at the break thanks to tries from skipper James Eckert, hooker Steve Dixey and wing Harry Carr, Roger Sevier landing two conversions.

The home side maintained the pressure in the second half, Jamie Burns notching their fourth try after terrific work by the pack.

The conversion was missed, but Grove had picked up one of the two points they needed for a certain play-off place.

Carr bagged his second try by gathering his own chip ahead and quickly added another for his hat-trick.

Sevier’s conversion made it 36-10 and with Grove declining kickable penalties, further tries came from Burns and Guy Nicholl, both converted by Sevier.

Alchester rounded off their season with a 29-0 victory at home to Tadley.
