Henley Hawks made sure of a play-off place and remain firmly in the hunt for the National 2 South title with a ten-try 62-17 demolition of Dings Crusaders at Dry Leas.

It was the fifth time this season they have registered ten tries or more.

Victory away to Shelford this Saturday will set up a showdown at home to leaders Worthing on May 4 to decide which side will go up to Division 1.

The largest crowd of the season were cheering the first try after just three minutes from scrum half Luke Carter.

Hawks had the edge in the set scrums and drove the visitors pack back over their line for No 8 Robbie Stapley to score, Will Robinson converting.

After sustained pressure, James Winterbottom went over to make it 17-0 before Crusaders got on the scoreboard with a try from Steven Taylor.

Henley hit back hard with tries from Stapley and Richard Briggs, Robinson converting twice, and the home side looked set for a comfortable interval lead.

However, Dings then caught them by surprise with tries either side of half-time via Sam Cox and Robert Dempsey, one converted by Mark Woodrow, to make it 31-17. That was as good as it got for the visitors as Hawks took over.

The tries flowed via Xavier Andre – who collected an off- load from Payne on halfway and sprinted home – hooker Nathan Morris (2), Matt Payne and skipper Martin Nutt. Liam O’Neill took over the kicking duties and landed three conversions.

Chinnor went down 53-26 away to Taunton Titans.
