A SECOND-HALF penalty saw Banbury United held to a 1-1 draw by Bedford Town in their final Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division home game at Spencer Stadium on Saturday.

The first half-hour was largely uneventful, with Eguenene Lubertucci’s shot, which went wide of the Banbury goal, the most notable moment.

But the Puritans then began to have much the better of the game.

Kynan Isaac had a shot parried by Ian Brown, and Ollie Wilkinson was on hand to clear from the incoming Adeyinka Talabi.

Albi Skendi then smashed a drive from outside the area against the right-hand post.

The visitors hit back, and Callum Lewis saw his shot pushed around an upright by Banbury keeper Warren Carter.

Banbury broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half when Bedford failed to clear the ball, and Skendi beat Brown with a low shot from 22 yards.

But Bedford equalised with a penalty in the 72nd minute.

Warren Plowright was adjudged to have handled Callum Lewis’s shot, and Lewis sent Carter the wrong way from the spot.

Both sides had chances to snatch a winner in the last ten minutes.

Nat Peacock headed a cross against the Banbury bar for Bedford, while Isaac saw his header well saved by Brown, who also denied Skendi.
