Oxford's Jason Plato will be looking to celebrate reaching a milestone when he contests his 400th race in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park tomorrow.

Plato bids to add to his series leads after recording a brace of wins for the MG KX Momentum Racing team in the opening round at Brands Hatch three weeks ago.

Rival Matt Neal, in the Honda Yuasa Racing team, also reaches a landmark as he contests his 500th race. John Cleland, a dual champion and veteran of 218 races, paid tribute to the pair.

He said: “Of course there’s three races at each event now, so it’s a bit different to when they started, but even so it’s a great achievement to wrack up so many races.

“Matt and Jason were racing when I was in the BTCC, so that shows how long they’ve been around – they’re real cornerstones of the series to be honest.”

l Fergus Walkinshaw is aiming to lead his new sportscar team, FW Motorsport, to a trio of Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup top-six finishes at Donington Park.

The fledgling Chipping Norton-based outfit made an encouraging race debut performance in the seaons’s opening rounds at Brands Hatch.

Despite suffering fuel pump failure through qualifying and the first round, Walkinshaw notched up the team’s first top-five finish in round three.

The Oxford Brookes University automotive engineering student said: “I’m really pleased with how the team is developing so far, now it’s all about building consistency and hopefully delivering more strong results at Donington Park.”
