Kimi Raikkonen was more than happy to take second place after recovering from a bad start at the China Grand Prix on Sunday.

Raikkonen, from the Enstone-based Lotus team, fought back after a poor start from the front row of the grid to finish behind Fernando Alsonso.

Teammate Romain Grosjean finished ninth. “I’m not 100 per cent happy because we didn’t win,” said Raikkonen.

“Second wasn’t quite what we wanted, but in the circumstances it was the best that we could manage today.

“But it is what it is and second place is a good result after a bad start and the incident with Sergio (Perez).

“Of course there were some handling issues which was not ideal, but we just had to try to live with it and we still had pretty okay speed.”

Valtteri Bottas, from the Grove-based Williams team was 13th, followed by teammate Pastor Maldonado in 16th.

Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton from the Banbury-based Marussia team, were 15th and 17th respectively.

The Leafield-based Caterham outfit saw drivers Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde finish 16th and 18th respectively.
