CONNOR Ferguson, from Abingdon, won the 10 & under title at the Nottingham Grade 2 event – a national level competition that includes the top 32 players in the country.
Ferguson did not drop a set until the final where he beat Toby Samuel, from Bourne-mouth, in three sets.
After losing the first set 4-1, he rallied to win the next 4-2 and then take a nail-biting final set tie-break 10-7.
Ferguson is in action at Sutton this week, where victory would make him the undisputed British No 1.
Chloe Elliott, from Abingdon, came sixth in the 9 & under girls’ singles at Nottingham. Troy Dixon (Banbury) also made the quarter-finals in the boys’ event.
- MAX Chopping and Taysie Gujral provided home success in the county level Grade 4 tournament at Witney.
Chopping (Charlbury) won his first event at this level, beating No 1 seed Spencer Israel, from Avon, in the 12 & under boys’ singles final.
Gujral (East End) saw off Alexandra Hildreth (Hertfordshire) 7-5, 7-5 in the 14 & under girls’ singles.
