OXFORD City could not repeat Monday night’s victory over Bradford Park Avenue and had to settle for a point in last night’s Blue Square Bet North return fixture at Marsh Lane.

A 1-1 draw was probably a fair result on a night of few chances, with heavy rain making passing difficult in the second half.

Bradford keeper John Lamb was busy early on, saving from Paul Stonehouse, while Adam Learoyd saw a shot cleared off the line from a Mark Bell corner.

Lamb saved again from Felipe Barcelos, but City got the breakthrough on 32 minutes.

Bell’s free-kick found Jjamie Cook, who netted a fine strike past Lamb from the edge of the box.

The visitors drew level three minutes before the break when a speculative effort from Jordan Deacey sailed into the net, giving keeper Nick Townsend no chance.

Townsend was then forced to pull off a great stop to foil Michael Duckworth.

Chances became few and far between after the break as the rain increased, Bradford’s Jamie Jackson having the best of them, but firing tamely at Townsend.

Oxford City: Townsend, Benjamin (McNish 88), Stonehouse, Ballard, Learoyd, Willmott, Pond, Malone, Barcelos (Basham 74), Cook, Bell (Stanley 64). Subs not used: Holgate, Mulvaney.

Attendance: 180.
