OXFORDSHIRE will take on Oxford University for a place in the National Under 20 Shield final at Twickenham.

The pair set up a semi-final showdown at Iffley Road on Sunday, April 21 after coming through their respective last eight ties.

Oxfordshire saw off Leicestershire 25-10 at Stratfield Brake, while the students overcame Durham 43-17 at West Hartlepool RFC.

The Shield final will be played at Twickenham on Saturday, May 4, with Cambridge University and Eastern Counties contesting the other last-four tie.

This means there could be a Varsity rematch, but Oxon will have other ideas.

Iffley Road is already hosting the Oxfordshire Shield and Cup finals on April 21, so the day is now set to be a triple-header.

And with Chinnor 2nd taking on Oxford University Greyhounds in the main match, there could be a few selection conflicts with the under 20 sides.

Oxfordshire Under 20s led 8-0 at half-time against Leicestershire, thanks to Harry Carr’s try and Jake Buckland’s penalty.

Second-half tries from Seb Harris and Juan Garrido, both converted by Will Bishop, and a further Buckland penalty sealed the win.

Meanwhile, Jack Calvert, Will Darby, Tom Smith, Chris O’Halloran, Sam Williams and Will Boardman all crossed over for the students in a big win away to Durham.

Matt Shorthose slotted five conversions and a penalty in the 43-17 success.

  • WITNEY Angels kept alive their slight hopes of winning Women’s National Conference South East West 2 after thrasing Portsmouth 81-7 at Hailey Road.

If Angels can pick up maximum points in their final match against Barnes and other results go their way, they could finish on top of the pile.

Player-of-the-match Jen Nicolson, Louise Gray, Shellie Tungeland and Marta Dabek all scored two tries against Portsmouth.

Claire Palmer, Lauren Williams, Sophie Hicks, Pip Timmins and Emma Patterson also crossed over, with Patterson adding seven conversions and Gray a further one.
