Clanfield continued their improvement with a narrow victory over Old Woodstock Town in a tight Division 1 West game.

The home side went ahead in the eighth minute when a long throw by Nathan Radbone caused problems and Lee Cooke beat Woodstock keeper Darren Mole from 15 yards.

Clanfield keeper Nick Heritage made two good saves before Neil Barrett knocked home the rebound after Cooke's shot had been blocked to make it 2-0.

Woodstock pressed strongly in the second half, but it was not until the 88th minute that Marc Jackson pulled a goal back.

This made for some frantic final minutes, but Clanfield held on.

Third-placed Hook Norton struggled to find their rhythm, but still beat lowly Purton 1-0 to keep themselves in contention for a promotion slot.

With the exception of Tim Jones, who picked up a hamstring injury in midweek, the home side were virtually at full strength and were able to leave top scorer Richard Northover on the bench.

Pete Moulder retaining the centre forward slot, following his excellent performance the previous week.

Hooky were on the back foot early on, but scored the only goal after 25 minutes.

Ryan Breslin's goalbound shot was judged by the referee to have been handled by a Purton defender in the penalty box.

Captain Robbie Canaway made no mistake from the resultant spot-kick.

In the second half, Hooky held on to their slender lead to take the points.

Easington travelled to high-flying Lydney with a depleted side - four players were unavailable - and went down to a 4-1 defeat.

The turning point came when Sports' striker Ricky Johnson went through on goal - with his side trailing 2-0 - and was flattened by the outrushing home keeper, only for play to be waved on by the referee.

This decision seemed to knock the stuffing out of Sports, and Lydney went on to score a further two goals.

A further penalty appeal was given to Sports and Johnson scored from the spot.
