Andy McCabe came off the bench to score twice in three minutes as North Leigh came from behind to secure a thrilling 3-1 victory over their Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division title rivals Slimbridge and go second in the table.

Visitors Slimbridge had the better of a goalless opening half at Eynsham Park, the highlight being a superb save from North Leigh's Richard Barratt, who denied Will Morford.

Six minutes after the break, Morford put Slimbridge ahead after the home defence failed to clear their lines.

The setback galvanised the hosts, who equalised in the 61st minute.

A James Mortimer-Jones strike from the edge of the area was tipped onto a post by Slimbridge keeper Ryan Chandler, but Andrew Helby was on hand to fire home the rebound.

After a surging run from Simon Futcher, the ball was was squared back across the area by Liam Hope, and McCabe, back after injury, blasted the rebound into the roof of the net after his first attempt had been saved.

Three minutes later, it was 3-1 as McCabe rose at the near post to head Futcher's free-kick into the far top corner.

The visitors, with just one defeat to date, huffed and puffed to get back into the game, but the North Leigh rearguard held firm.

Liam Malone's late strike toppled leaders Almondsbury 2-1 and took Ardley top of the table.

Ardley had to come from behind to pull off this notable success.

They went behind after nine minutes when they failed to clear a corner, and the ball was driven home from the edge of the box.

In the second half, Tom Green took control of the midfield and striker Luke Holden, making his debut, cut across the box to fire home the equaliser.

With ten minutes remaining, Malone grabbed the winner with a low drive.

Ardley had to play the last two minutes with ten men after goalkeeper Steve Edwards was injured, as they had used all their substitutes.

Even the return of Jon Beames in the Abingdon Town goal could not prevent Carterton cruising to a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Indeed, but for the presence of last year's keeper, the visitors' win would have been even greater.

On a heavy pitch, it was Carterton who drew first blood.

After a good darting run, Tony Joyce whipped the ball into the Abingdon box where strike Steve Avenall challenged for the ball.

The ball broke to Gary Cornwall, who took his chance well, slipping the ball past Beames.

Beames then made three excellent one-on-one saves as Alex Green bore down on the Abingdon goal.

Craig Antcliffe had Abingdon's best chance, but saw his shot blocked.

Carterton's second goal came from a penalty early in the second half.

Cornwall was pushed over in the box and Jamie Butt scored from the spot.

Beames made three more excellent saves from the feet of Green in the second half.

At the other end, Carterton's manager Steve Hale donned the gloves, with Steve Benbow away, but had a quiet match.

Wantage Town xtended their unbeaten run to 12 matches with a 1-1 draw against Shrivenham.

After a goalless first half, it was the visitors who took the lead.

Paul Belcher, in the Wantage goal, saved well but the loose ball found Fila, who fired home.

Wantage worked hard to get back into the game and were rewarded with an equaliser.

A well-taken free-kick from Glynn Jones gave the Shrivenham keeper no chance.
