Oxon 4th opened their campaign in Division 5C of the Inter-Counties Championships with a dramatic 8-7 win over Gloucestershire 3rd at Gloucester.
Oxon's men's duo of Colin Campbell and Will Green accounted for six wins - one singles each, two doubles together and a mixed apiece.
It was Campbell's mixed with Lauren Cooper which eventually separated the team as they won the decider 21-17, 17-21, 21-18.
Playing at Brighton in Division 3C, Oxon 2nd could lost 13-2 to Sussex 3rd.
Derek Hold won his singles, while Jemma Noble and Heather Booth took one doubles.
Feathers of Banbury were unruffled by hosts Oxford Brookes as they posted a 248-193 victory and took over top spot in Division 1 of the Oxon Five Disciplines League.
Hayley Davies, Emma Cramond, Stuart Quick and Jonny Bougard finished only two points adrift of a maximum.
They were denied a full house when the Brookes women's duo of Lindsey Round-Turner and Chaiki Murayama won the second game 25-23, after dropping the opener 25-21.
Oxon Colts moved to second place when they upended Windrush 245-181, Colts dominating the two singles disciplines through Jonathan Campbell and Amanda King.
Holders Headington A, struggling in seventh place after the first round of matches, were given a huge lift by beating an incomplete Radley and Oxford side.
Radley won the women's singles and doubles and halved the men's doubles.
But they could not overcome the 50 points they gave away in the men's singles and lost 235-162.
